A Bit About Me

Hello! I'm Addison, or you can call me Addi. My passion has always been in the realm of design, with a particular focus on residential design. I graduated from Northern Arizona University, where I have a bachelors degree in interior design. My journey through my college career has provided me with a wealth of knowledge about the design industry, and I'm eager to apply my creativity and love for interior design in the real world.

When it comes to my work, I bring innovation, hard work, a collaborative spirit, and a vibrant personality to the design site. I thoroughly enjoy working in teams, where we can combine our efforts to create the most functional and appealing spaces and ideas.

My Experience

During my freshman year at NAU, I gained foundational skills in design. I learned how to hand-draft floor plans and create one- and two-point perspective drawings. Additionally, I delved into the realm of color theory, understanding the profound impact colors have on our emotions and how they influence our interaction with spaces. This education also provided insights into choosing the appropriate colors for different environments.

In my sophomore year, I delved into the technological aspects of design. I acquired proficiency in using various software tools for design and utilized them to create a variety of projects, which are now featured in my portfolio. This experience was highly enjoyable as I explored the capabilities of these software applications to bring my creative visions to reality. The software tools I worked with include:

  •  AutoCad

  •  Sketchup

  •  Revit

  •  Adobe Photoshop

  •  Adobe Illustrator

  •  InDesign.

During the summer following my sophomore year, I undertook an internship at Tate Studio Architect, working alongside interior designer Allison Rose. During my time there, I assisted with tasks such as AutoCAD work, SketchUp, contributing to the development of design concepts, creating mood boards, and selecting finishes. I also had the opportunity to accompany the team on site visits and showroom trips to gain insights into new product.

During my junior year's fall semester, I delved into fundamental issues in the design of complete interior spaces. This focused on understanding the factors that influence space usage, detailing specifications, and creating design visuals. I gained a solid grasp of the essential design procedures necessary for tackling diverse spatial concepts. This course facilitated my comprehension of design challenges, the human aspects of interior design, honed my critical thinking, refined my ability to conduct credible research, and enhanced my skills in presenting designs both visually and verbally.

In my spring semester of my junior year, I served as a teaching assistant for the ID 261 class under Professor JR Makenzie. This experience significantly enhanced my leadership skills, as I supported sophomores by answering their questions via email and in class. I also took on responsibilities like leading class presentations and activities. It was an incredible opportunity that broadened my perspective. Additionally, during that semester, we focused extensively on space planning through a healthcare project, which provided valuable insights into this specialized area of design.

For my senior capstone, our theme was belonging, and I explored this through extensive research, including surveys and case studies. I learned the value of considering multiple solutions to a design problem and how design can foster community and inclusion. My final project was a multi-level commercial building—a multicultural restaurant called Soul & Spice, inspired by the diverse voices and stories uncovered during my research.

The design process took the project from space planning through AutoCAD, then into SketchUp and Escape for final visualization. This project challenged me as a designer in the best way possible. It pushed me to think deeply about how spaces impact people and opened my eyes to the richness of different cultures and the essential role of inclusivity in design. You can find more about this project in my portfolio.
